Testing UPM® Permanent Pavement Repair Material Underwater
Permanence. When it comes to pavement repair products for filling potholes, patching utility cuts and repairing roadways, the ideal solution is a permanent one.
There are a number of factors that influence the permanence of a pavement repair solution: workability, cohesion and film thickness to name a few. One of the most important factors, given the unpredictability of both Mother Nature and potholes, is stripping – or whether or not the mix will perform in wet conditions.
Typical mixes, when introduced to water have the asphalt strip right off the rock, leaving just bare rock behind. This uncoated rock is quickly expelled from the repair area. This is dangerous for motorists and annoying for those responsible for the upkeep of roadways. Not to mention the rocks ending up in drainage ditches and sewers.
UPM® High-Performance Cold Mix is a permanent pavement repair solution that works regardless of weather conditions. We are so confident that UPM® mix works in wet conditions that we wanted to try an experiment. We mixed up a batch of “The Good Stuff” COMPLETELY UNDER WATER. Surely, if UPM® mix coats underwater, a little rain won’t prevent it from doing the job – for good.
Let’s take a look at the results:
Pretty incredible, right?! To learn why UPM® mix works so well regardless of the conditions, take a minute to watch this video:
