Pavegrip Frequently Asked Questions

Pavegrip is an antistripping additive which helps to improve the tensile strength ratio (TSR) of the mix. Aggregates have a natural affinity for water.  In fact, each stone has an invisible film of moisture even after drying. Pavegrip helps disperse the moisture allowing for a stronger bond of the liquid asphalt to the aggregate. This is also true for dust on the surface of the aggregate. Pavegrip helps disperse the dust to help improve the bonding. This action improves TSR’s improving test results such as the TSR test of AASHTO T 283.

Pavegrip is injected into the liquid asphalt cement. Three methods are recommended for injecting Pavegrip Additive to your asphalt cement:

1. At the asphalt terminal, the correct amount of additive can be placed in the bottom of the tanker before the asphalt cement is loaded (added either manually or pumped in). When the asphalt cement is loaded the turbulence will provide sufficient mixing;
2. Simple drum or tote use at the plant when unloading a tanker of asphalt cement. This method involves placing a Tee in the line before the asphalt cement unloading pump. Using a scale and a flow control valve, the proper amount of additive can be drawn into the line using the suction of the unloading pump.
3. Use of a storage tank with a metering system (with metering pump) is the most accurate and most common. In this case controls are used to set the flow rate of the additive into the tank during unloading of the asphalt.

The typical dosage of Pavegrip is 0.25% to 0.75%.  But on average the most widely used dosage is 0.5% Pavegrip (based upon the weight of the liquid AC).

Pavegrip has five year shelf life.  If the product is stored outside during the winter in a drum or tote a small amount of mixing may be required if the product cannot be warmed up.  But after this the product is ready for use.

The recommended storage temperature is 100º to 120º F.

Packaging includes 55 gallon drums (440 pounds net), 275 gallon totes (2,205 pounds net) or in various bulk quantities.
